Uroflowmetry is a urethral examination of urine, analyzing the stream, volume, and flow curve. It is a simple, non-invasive, and patient-safe test, used to diagnose conditions that impede urination.
The most important condition is a properly filled bladder. Drink plenty of water before the test and refrain from urinating until the test is completed. A strong urge to urinate is a sign that the patient is well prepared.
If the patient takes regular medications, they should be taken on the day of the test. Anticholinergic medications should be discontinued 7 days before the test.
After the test is completed, the patient returns to the office, where the urologist immediately analyzes and interprets the uroflowmetry results.
