Dermabrasion has been used in medicine for many years, mainly as an effective treatment for acne scars. Dermabrasion is also used to treat stretch marks and deep scars, remove blemishes, reduce wrinkles, strengthen the skin, and stimulate collagen and elastin production.

The dermabrasion procedure

The procedure involves uniform mechanical exfoliation of the skin to the same depth (the embryonic layer) across the entire treated area.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and does not require hospitalization.

Some scars disappear after the first procedure, but others require additional procedures.

Immediately after the procedure, a sterile bandage with antibacterial and antiviral agents is applied, which is removed after 7-10 days.

Recommendations after dermabrasion procedure

After the procedure, you should maintain a calm lifestyle for a week or two. You may experience minor discomfort. Your face will appear swollen for the first 2-3 days.

The swelling will subside over time (it can be partially reduced with ice packs, but only on the recommendation of a doctor and under strict supervision – there may be a risk of frostbite).

You will also see some bruising. Swelling and bruising always occur with invasive procedures. The healing time depends on the depth of the dermabrasion. Postoperative skin care includes changing dressings and using appropriate products prescribed by your doctor. After the procedure, it is important to use sunscreen, as the skin is more susceptible to the harmful effects of UVA/UVB rays.
