Breast reconstruction methods

The most commonly performed procedure is implant placement after prior preparation of the breast tissue. Often, it is necessary to transplant fat tissue under the skin, replacing the planned breast reconstruction site. Once the fat tissue has healed, the next stage of reconstruction can begin.

The course of breast reconstruction surgery

Breast implant implantation using a tissue expander is a two-stage procedure. The first stage of breast reconstruction after mastectomy involves placing the expander in place of the lost breast. The expander gradually stretches the skin to obtain the appropriate volume for implant placement. The second stage is the actual procedure, which involves removing the expander and placing a pre-selected implant in its place.

Post-treatment recommendations

Depending on the type of anesthesia administered, the patient remains in the clinic for one day or leaves the clinic immediately after the procedure. Follow-up visits are required after breast reconstruction at the doctor’s appointment. Recovery lasts from a few to several days. For several weeks after the procedure, the patient must wear a specially fitted bra both day and night. During the initial period, physical exertion should be avoided, and hot baths, saunas, and tanning beds should be avoided.
