Liposuction

Liposuction – lipoplasty – is simply a procedure for removing fat tissue. It is performed to remove excess fat from a specific part of the body that, despite proper diet and physical activity, persists. Body contouring and achieving appropriate body proportions are the main goals of this procedure. However, it is not an alternative to bariatric surgery.

What parts of the body can undergo liposuction?

Liposuction can be performed on the face, neck, chin, arms, torso, chest (in men), abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, lower legs, knees, and calves.

It is primarily intended for individuals with a normal body weight who struggle with excess fat in specific body areas.

The course of the liposuction procedure

The procedure involves the removal of fat and reshaping the area. It is performed in several stages. The first involves injecting the fat tissue with an anesthetic solution, followed by tunneling and the elimination (suction) of fat cells damaged during the procedure.

A single procedure can safely remove 3.5 liters of fat. Liposuction is performed under both local and general anesthesia. The procedure is not a treatment for obesity, but rather a method for sculpting specific body parts. It can be combined with other surgical procedures.

Post-treatment recommendations

After the procedure, a special compression garment is applied to reduce swelling and facilitate skin contraction. The initial postoperative period lasts for seven days, during which walking is recommended. After two weeks, massages are recommended. A high-protein diet, vitamins, zinc, iron, walking, swimming, and cycling are also recommended. A reduction in the circumference of the surgical area is noticeable after four to six weeks. Slight swelling, redness, and bruising may occur after the procedure. All these side effects usually disappear spontaneously after a few days. For approximately two weeks after the procedure, it is recommended to limit physical activity (avoid sudden movements and strenuous physical activity). During the initial postoperative period, hot baths, saunas, and tanning beds should be avoided.
