A shift in daily activity and its forms towards a sedentary lifestyle and work, combined with a lack of exercise and an excess of easily accessible, highly processed foods, contributes to the development of lifestyle diseases, particularly the development of obesity. Obesity is defined by the WHO as the pathological or excessive accumulation of body fat, which can lead to adverse health effects. The widely accepted and most commonly used measure of body fat is the body mass index (BMI).
