The first step toward a successful procedure is a medical consultation. During the consultation, the doctor conducts a detailed medical history and selects the appropriate procedure, prescribes the necessary tests, and provides preoperative recommendations.

-discussion of the patient’s attempts to lose weight and their effects,

-comorbidities such as hypertension.

If a patient suffers from a chronic disease, such as a heart or lung condition, they should, before visiting a bariatrician, have an additional consultation with an appropriate specialist or bring with them to the consultation a complete set of medical records regarding the condition.

Additionally, during your visit, you must report all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications. This applies particularly to medications containing acetylsalicylic acid (e.g., Polopiryna, Aspirin), which impair blood clotting.

The next step is an anesthesiology consultation, which, according to regulations, must take place before the planned surgical procedure. During the consultation, the doctor reviews current laboratory results, specialist consultations, and documentation regarding comorbidities and medications. The anesthesiologist assesses the safety of anesthesia and ultimately determines the patient’s eligibility for the procedure.
